Few things get in my craw as much as the detestation of the US Military by 'enlightened' ones (think leftists, statists, internationalists, one-worlders, the US press, college professors, Democrats) who think the US Military just kills people and breaks things.

Don't get me wrong, we are the best at killing people and breaking things, but the US Military has done as much or more than any other institution to've ever existed to bring relief and comfort to those that are afflicted, injured, or in misery. When was the last time the Bangladeshi Navy brought food to the American shores after a hurricane? Howzabout the Iranian Air Force flying in medical supplies to us when we have an earthquake? When was the last time the United Nations airdropped food to the folks in the Midwest without electricity or drivable roads after a severe ice storm? When has the Cuban Coast Guard searched the seas for two NFL players when their boat capsized? I hope you get my point.

I'm certain that this and our past efforts to be of assistance to mankind, Berlin Airlift, Blood Clotting Powder, Operation Drop food to starving Afghanis, (I forget the actual name, I'll fix once I'm stable), will not be recognized for the advancement of human happiness that it will be.

JICYMI, Pentagon Plan to Regrow Limbs: Phase One, Complete. This will benefit mankind.

And as in past endeavors, the US Military will get no credit. And one other entity will get no credit.

Capitalism.

Capitalism allowed America to fund the most vicious, effective, efficient, and benevolent military in the history of the world. With the current ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE, administration and congress, we're p*ssing all that goodiness away. Obama asked the DOD to take a 10% pay cut. (Are we gonna lose a few good union jobs with that? How's that for Hope, Change, tax cuts for 95% of the 'taxpayers'? Thought so).

Maybe Obama doesn't want children in Indonesia, or Kenya, or Djibouti to benefit from the good that America gives to the world? Or women in Iran, Mexico, or Venezuela? Or men of African descent in Canada, Peru, Uzbhekistan? Maybe some Special Olympians in the Ukraine, Hong Kong, or India would appreciate Obama gutting REAL research vs viable alternatives?

Please tell me who Obama is helping here.

It amazes me that I can't be President. Maybe someday I will be, but I'll need another TelePrompTer. 'Cause Obama's got a good one.

I'm confabulated that the +/- 300 million or so Americans (and non-Americans, there's a difference) are fascinated with a guy who can deliver good oratory from a machine. Hell, even Sean Penn doesn't need a machine to recite lines. I can recite some Shakespeare after a drink or two, (let's not discuss Karaoke), but I'm still not President. I used to be President of my High School Thespian Troupe, (we memorized our lines back then), but because I didn't take my TelePrompTer to the airport I'm not the voice of the Leader of the Free World. I think I should be.

I'm also no Poli-Sci major, but shouldn't the leader of the 2nd most important political party in America have a bunch of Poli-Sci grads making sure that I don't get a rep that I'm an idiot without a machine telling me what to say?

Via The Corner, Michael Cannon makes the case that once society elects "Universal" ie. Socialized health care, "a free market is impossible and the casualties begin to mount.". He basically states that if we let the Feds make the decision, "to achieve universal coverage would require either having the government provide it to everyone or forcing everyone to buy it." Neither is a good option IMHO. My favorite line in the piece? "So what should the government do about the holdouts? Leave them alone. It’s a free country." Read all about it here.

Planned Impoverishment

The Virginian writes about possible "planned impoverishment". Had I been a better blogger I would have written something up a couple days ago. I was thinking this as the market keeps tanking daily with every speech/policy suggestion by the Administration. Most retirees had a huge chunk of savings evaporate since The One has been elected.

"If I were a suspicious man, I would suspect that Team Obama is not unhappy that people are losing their financial independence. It’s much easier to control people when they don’t have “go to hell” money."

It's best if you read the whole thing and read the reader comments. But I am getting worried that this assumption is true. FDR kept the depression going longer than necessary doing what Obama, Pelosi, & Reid are doing (spending/debt). And Reagan started a 28 year (mostly, aside from the dot.com bust that GW Bush inherited from Clinton) growth in GDP, wages, and employment by doing exactly the opposite of what Obama's doing. Our economy and tax collections grew with lower taxes.

We suffered a major terrorist attack that targeted our financial sectors early in the Bush years. We fought the War on Terror on multiple (physical) battlegrounds. We restored optimism and trust in our financial system. We still continued growth while reducing the deficit. And we still have not had a major attack on our soil since 911. Thank you GW. Now the Democrats want to erase all that achievement and revert to FDR/Johnson models of wealth redistribution and Keynesian "Stimulus". This is going to hurt for awhile.

There are few people I would travel more than 30 miles to enjoy dinner with, GW, Rich Lowry, Michelle Malkin. There is no person currently on this planet that I would spend five minutes of my time to get their autograph. But if I could only get five minutes (and an autograph) from Paul Harvey, I'd give up beer for a week, cigarettes for (ever?) three days. That man is the epitome of reaching for a star and actually grabbing it.

I must say that I didn't always seek him out, but Damn, every time I did come across him on the radio, I didn't change the station. He may not have the celebrity that other media people do, but he certainly had the gravitas that all media people crave. And the reason the desirers will never get it is because he was the real deal. If he said it, it was true. He knew what needed to be said and he said it. And he said it in a way that anybody hearing could understand.

Although I don't think the recession is over, (that won't happen until The President signs the "Stimulation" bill on Oprah! 'Live' and the media tell us how wonderful everything is), the folks over at Reason found that most anti-recession bills weren't signed until after the bottoming-out of the business cycle.

"This chart, based on recession timelines from the National Bureau of Economic Research, shows the enactment of stimulus plans is a fairly accurate indicator that we have hit the bottom of the business cycle, meaning the economy will improve even if the government does nothing."
